CURRENT POLITICAL ISSUES IN NIGERIA

The Supreme Court yesterday felt the decision of the court of appeal that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should conduct special election to ANAMBRA CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT of Anambra State in Nigeria. The Apex Court dismissed an appeal filed by SENATOR UCHE EKWUNIFE , Challenging the ruling of the court of the appeal on the matter, our former Chairman of All Progressive Grand Party Alliance (APGA) CHIEF VICTOR UMEH whose majorly stokehold on the election spoke with the head of our political unit DAN EDEH on the implications of Apex court Judgment as follows:

According to CHIEF VICTOR UMEH who expresses his concern and view towards the Supreme Court’s action of condemning the appeal by UCHE EKWUNIFE and commended them for strongly doing that, according to him, he said that he is very optimistic about that because it is purely unconstitutional, and said going by the constitution the National Assembly matters ends at the court of the Appeal and should not further extend to supreme court by virtue of section 246 subsection 3 of 1999 constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. But he said that citizens had decided to abuse our constitution, not only as regard this matter but  other subsequent issues like this where people will lose in State and National Assembly Issue, after appeal court might have passed judgment, they will proceed to supreme court to counter the Judgment. But they are all aware that the state and National Assembly election matters end in the Court of Appeal. He also said that people like this who won’t accept what they cannot change will want to be adventurous, and they file these appeal to the Supreme Court. And the Supreme Court had over times is pairing the Jurisdiction because of this constitutional provision, that they don’t have the right to interfere in matters that had to do with State and Federal court of Appeal which is final.

Unfortunately, in the ANAMBRA STATE CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT the Court of appeal nullified that election and disqualified the PDP Candidate UCHE EKWUNIFE instead of accepting the judgment, she proceeded to the Supreme Court. And that election had drive since then from 7th December 2015 to 10th February 2017.  And that had come to a rest as every door is open for a fresh election as regard that first one held as ordered by the court of Appeal.

DAN EDEH, The head of our political unit also responded to this issue by saying “and rest on the implication that Anambra Central Senatorial people not being represented in the senate for past 20 months. He also said that it is obvious that since 7th December 2015 that Anambra Central Senatorial district has remained without a Senator. He also said that we all know that in the whole of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Today Anambra Central Senatorial is the only one that does not have a senator.

Also DAN EDEH said that the same problem was applicable to a senatorial district in Rivers State but people had worked so much for it to normalize that is why if you don’t have people who speak for you, the loss will continue to increase. But having made this land mark judgment, any person who is thinking or nursing the idea of ambushing this Judgment with the view to delaying this run election is on a fantasy journey. And stately, the Anambra state Governorship election is going to take place on this platform, how prepared is this your party the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for this two election within the year, especially at the many people had found it fashionable to defer to the real party on the ground that it is not good for anyone to stay in the opposition?

CHIEF VICTOR UMEH replied by saying “Well, APGA as a political party was registered in 2002 had not been in controlling of the central government of Nigeria, but remained in Anambra state Nigeria successfully, PETER OBI and TWO APGA got in elected two times, APGA got a successor in the in presence of the presence governor HIS EXCELLENCY CHIEF WILLY MMADUABUCHUKWU OBIANOR, and he is doing very well. So APGA had been ahead of affairs in Anambra state for the past eleven years, and it is because the people love the programs of the party and the achievement of the people who had been elected by APGA to serve Anambra state.”

Then DAN EDEH said “So to answer a question, people will continue to move around parties, it is not important, what is important is that the people who will cast this vote know what they want.

A former national Chairman of the Labor party MR. ANYANWU is appealed to South – East Geo Political zone to inspect the zoning formula of each political party especially the one in power. MR. ANYANWU was reacting recent to justice of some of the opinion leaders from the zone to take a shot of presidency in the 2019.

Making his position known with the news correspondence in Abuja, Nigeria; MR. DAN ANYANWU explained that anything to the contrary throughout the country is on Political insurgency. According to MR. DAN ANYANWU who said that he is a very plain person, that they should allow the Northerner to complete ATS, let LATE PRESIDENCY BUHARI finish his four years and whether president BUHARI will re-contest which he does not know, but if there are other Northerners contesting they will look at them, but anyone that can bring Nigeria out this recession will do another four years. The power move, this is what Nigeria had requested on itself but to say you deny the Northern Nigeria the opportunity of ATS that He MR. DAN ANYANWU is not part of it.

On the friction between two Souths – East governors, MR. DAN ANYANWU called people’s attention to the issue: According to him, he specified that let not what happened to between IMO GOVERNOR and ANAMBRA GOVERNOR disturb anybody, and it does not disturb he himself even the Ibo tribes, and asked them if they have seen or heard Ibos discussing the issue? So he pointed out that it is a political issue, and once a matter is political, the Ibos don’t dribble over it because they are learned. And when the matter comes to the issue that the two governors will be brought together, that is not a big issue amongst the Ibos because you will still see two of them eating and dining together. MR. DAN ANYANWU said with the credible leadership for the OHANEZE NDI IGBO, achieving goals of the South –East will be made easy.
