The newly sworn in Education secretaries of the seventeen
local government Areas of Plateau State in Nigeria had been urged to discharge
their duties diligently. Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board Sugbe PROFESSOR MATHEW SULE made this know at
the inauguration in Jos.
According to the reporter from Jos Plateau state in Nigeria, said
that PROFESSOR SULE urged the educationist
secretary to record the development of Basic Education in the state; He noted
that 80 percent of public school pupil in grade 4 and 6 were unable to read and
write, the board chairman also called on them to work for the progress of the elementary
education in the state by reversing the ugly trend. Still according to the PROFESSOR SULE he said that the new
generation citizens are highly unskilled, especially among the less privileged
members of the state that cannot afford the high school fees paid in the
private schools to obtain quality education. PROFESSOR SULE warns that any education secretary found wanting in
course of discharging his duty will be sanctioned
The commissioner for the secondary education MR. JOSEPH MERIGA represented by the
permanent secretary in the ministry, DR.
ELIAS PIDDY while describing basic
education as a foundation for learning charged the educational secretaries to
exhibit professional ethics. Still according to DR. ELIAS PIDDY, he instructed to invest their time and effort to
their duty and ensure that the standard of education in state is improved.
Also the Plateau State coordinator of Universal Basic
Education Commission MRS. AUGUSTINA SAMCHI said necessary measures must be taken to
revive the lost glory of the Basic Education in the state. Responding from MR. PONKA ADMIRAL pledged the
commitment of the educational secretaries to the deli every of quality elementary
basic education to the plateau state child. The Occasion was graced by the
stake holder in the education sector.
