ARTICLE WRITTEN BY ONYIA EMEKA HARFORD TITLED: THE RISK OF INTERNET BANKING

It is very easy and wonderfully sweet to operate your bank account on the internet; but the risk is more deadly than the advantages. There had been series of recorded events of crime whereby people lost millions of money in diverse currencies online due to carelessness and inexperience in online transaction. But the most baffling issue is that the perpetrators of this act are not far from the victim. There are cases whereby someone far away in India will have access to your local account and transfer everything in seconds. And you begin to imagine: How does this person come to know my password? And how does it happen? The plans that led to that sudden transfer do not start that the same day. If proper investigation should be carried out, you will come to understand that the perpetrators of that duping are within the environment you are living.

This is why the banking sector worldwide should be interlinked so as to trace and track the fraudulent bank account as well as the personalities involved in the crime. EFCC cannot track down these fraudulent personalities without the help of banking sector, the world bank should look into this issue critically and try to harmonize the banking sector all over the world with a common security algorithm for easy detection of financial crime, tracking of the destination account as well as fishing out the perpetrators behind the crime and prosecuting them. And with the permission of Nations of the world, they should promulgate laws that covers online fraudulent act and let it be global laws irrespective of your country. Once you are found and detected by EFCC and World Bank involving in the online financial fraud. You are liable to the same punishment.

I hereby also suggest that if the above idea will be considered and the law promulgated as well as endorsed by the legislative wings of different countries. There will be proper security online. This also entails that the officials of EFCC and World Bank should be at an alert with their sophisticated gadgets to monitor and control the progress of online transaction 24/7.
