THE COMMUNITY PROTEST AGAINST THE PREMISES OF THE AKWA-IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT OWNED PAINT COMPANY IN IKODAKA, ETINON LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF THE STATE IN NIGERIA


The Premises of the Akwa-Ibom State Government Owned Paint Company in Ikodaka, Etinon Local Government Area of the state in Nigeria, was today locked in protest by youth and members of the staff of the company. The protestant alleged mismanagement and failure of the company to carry out corporate social responsibility practice.

According to the reporter the premises of the company was locked up as at 6 o clock in the morning yesterday with a padlock and traditional injunction known in Ibibio Language Ayeye. The company which was locked up by the youth of the community, former workers and coworkers of the company forced all staff of the firm to go home. Some of the protestant complained about the mismanagement of the company, retrenchment of the  workers which did not follow due process, unlawful deduction of taxes, poor salary and welfare packages for staff and refusal of the management to employ youth of the community as well as poor community relations.

Labour leaders of the company who demanded to remain an ominous called on State government to dissolve the current management and set up an interim management committee. Other complained that they were paid N10, 000.00 as main salary which far below the approve minimum wage.

The youth of the company complained that they are unemployed as well as the community leader said that their community has not been developed by the company. The management of the company could not be reached for comment .
