The house representative in Nigeria
said that he will initiate a legislation to give an additional constitutional powers to the AUDITOR GENERAL OF FEDERATION to check
corruption in government and to enhance transparency. The speaker of the house MR. YAKUBU DOGARA stated this in a
message to a meeting of Alo African Supreme Audit Institute (AFROSIE) held in
Abuja.
According to the reporter from Abuja, Nigeria, the momentum
tagged AFROSIE is a gathering of all Auditor of English speaking African countries,
the aim is to bring stem to enhance transparence and governance and check
corruption at all levels. The speaker of the house of the representatives MR. YAKUBU DOGARA represented by the chairman house committee on
public account MR. CHINDA OGODO said transparence in governance should be
entrusted in Africa MR. DOGARA said Audition and public account is the
responsibility of the Auditor General. Therefore, the house is determined to
give him more powers to check on corruption.
The chairman of the AFROSIE and the Auditor General of
Serial nill MRS. LARA PILL , said
the meeting this year is active as it were the period several African countries were witnessing political
transformation. The Auditor General of the Federation SAMUEL OKORA expressed the
readiness of the office to be in the fore front to fight against corruption,
MR. SAMUEL OKORA said the office has completed the Audit of the
2014 budget and it will expand its activities to other sectors of the Nation’s
economy.
Iss Bute from the Chlamydia Audit Foundation said the event
will help to adopting transparent method of auditing. The meeting is also being
attended by the 36 state of Nigerian federation Auditor Generals and other
stakeholders which is to last for the next three days starting from Monday 9th
may to Wednesday 11th May 2016.
