A CURRENT CASE OF CHILD TRAFFICKING IN ABAKALIKI EBONYI STATE IN NIGERIA

The Police in Ebonyi State in Nigeria have rescued six children between the ages of 1-5 years allegedly trafficked by gangs operating in Ebonyi , Anambra and Delta State. The commissioner of police in the state PEACE IBEKWE AGBARA stated this while probing some suspects’ members of the Gang before News men at the State commands headquarters in Abakaliki the capital of the Ebonyi State in Nigeria.

According to reporter of the incident from Abakaliki who said that the suspects includes the head of department in Anambra state ministry of Women’s affairs who allegedly coordinated the selling of one the children to a woman in Umaro Awka South at the cost of seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N750,000.00), The commissioner of Police PEACE IBEKWE AGBARA explained  the arrest of the suspect which led to the rescue of some of the children at some orphanage homes at NKPOR UNO in Anambra state, where they were kept for interested buyers.

Two mothers explained how they were treated into a sham marriage and by syndicate ended up selling their two children to traffickers in Asaba Delta State in Nigeria. They also narrated their husband’s involvement in the selling of their baby out of poverty. The head of the department in Anambra state ministry of Women affairs alleged that the child was brought to the ministry by one CHIZOBA. According to the head of the department she said that she met CHIZOBA in the Church and CHIZOBA told her she has a child, and she ask CHIZOBA  if she will sell the child, and she said yes, after which she bought the baby from her.

Also the woman who adopted the Child however explained that the ministry, however coordinated the transaction and was well represented where she paid the huge amount of Money for the Baby. According to the woman who narrated her own side said that the woman that sold the baby to her called her and requested that she should come and buy her child, when she rushed and got the sum of thirty thousand naira (N30,000.00) and deposited for the to buy the baby, and the woman in the ministry made her to know that the money deposited was registration fee and after two weeks they still have to call her to bring a sum of seven hundred thousand naira (N700,000.00), which she complied but little did she know that the child was an illegal transaction by the woman from the ministry of women affairs Anambra State. Still the suspects will be charged to court for further interrogation.
