EDO STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION IN NIGERIA HAS BEEN SHIFTED TO WEDNESDAY 28TH OF SEPTEMBER 2016

The Independent National Electoral Commission has shifted Edo Governorship election to Wednesday the 28th of this September. The national commission in charge of voters, education and publicity PRINCE SOLOMOM CHEOBI stated this while speaking to newsmen in Benin City Nigeria.

According to reporter from Benin City Nigeria who specified that addressing newsmen in Benin City the Edo state capital in Nigeria PRINCE CHEOBI explained that the shift became imperative as a result of security advice from police and directorate of state security service DSS over insurgent threats in the state. According to PRINCE CHEOBI, he said that the commission received advice from the police and DSS while intervention is made to postpone the above governorship election. Consequently, the commission met the request of the above security agencies as sided to reschedule the above governorship election to Wednesday the 28th September 2016.

PRINCE CHEOBI emphasized that the commission was fully prepared to conduct the election but will not undermine the security report. He also said that the commission has implemented twelve out of the fourteen activities on the election timeline stating that it would have deployed eighteen thousand (18,000) electoral staff secured and also deployed all material required for the election. He also specified that the commission has mobilized over 1.9 million voters to exercise their civic responsibilities.

PRINCE CHEOBI stressed that commission could not guarantee the lives of the electorate, as it was the responsibility of the security agencies to do so, hence the postponement.
