Stakeholders in the aviation industry had held over
the decision of the federal Airport authority of Nigeria to set up an audit
team to investigate the financial transaction in account and commercial
department of the agency. These followed an alleged discovery of seventy
million frauds by one of the accounting officers currently being investigated
by the Economic and Financial Crime
Commission (EFCC).
According to reporter of the incident who said that
the alleged seventy million frauds had said to be detected by the information
and communication technology department earlier in the year and reported, the
accused is female of level 6 account
officer said to have diverted registry funds in to different accounts of some
staff and others using fictitious fate, according to Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the management set up
a committee which investigated a major suspect and company of others involved
in the fraud.
The major suspect according to the committee
reports, confessed that some of the money was sent to abroad accounts while the
Economic and Financial Crime Commission
(EFCC) is currently investigating the matter; Ex-services Senior Staff

AHMED and the second national President MRS. CICILIA LINTA said
the few weight of the law should be applied on anyone found culpable. According
to COMRADE DANJIMA AHMED, he said
that this kind of problem is not allowed in the society because a lot of people’s
allowances are involved in carted away funds and as a result it has affected
FAAN financially in settling debt and allowances of the staff. And also MRS. CICILIA LINTA said that whoever that is involved in the crime should be
prosecuted accordingly as the law specified.
COMERADE
DERAZAT IDO one
of the Union leaders in the sector said development was rather unfortunate and
called for the ordered of the aviation agency to unravel similar cases.
According to COMERADE DERAZAT IDO who
specified that what was disclosed is illegal to what had been evidence to every
staff going on in the aviation industry, and also said that EFCC are doing a good work in the
industry to thrash out hiding issues to the evidence of every staff to see the
situation of the crime.
Also in Aviation security outfit GOOD CAPTAIN JOHN OJUKWU said the
recent fraud is a tip of an eyes berg, and therefore asked government to
critically look at the revenue apparatus of the agencies. According to GOOD CAPTAIN JOHN OJUKWU he said that they
should look into the demanding on packaging passenger’s luggage before flight,
particularly for international flight where they collect $50 dollars for each
passenger, and he said imagine what that will yield for two million passengers
annually to those staff.
The management of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said the objective of the audit is
to block all loopholes in revenue sources and ensured that all the funds generated
are captured and accounted for by the management. As the accused officer is
currently on suspension, the management said it hope the EFCC have unraveled
the details of the frauds, punish those involved and welcome management for
restore and recurrence.
