The
Federal government had been urged to formulate the policies that would address
the challenges facing the elderly in the country, President, senior Citizens
Advocacy Network of Nigeria and Nongovernmental organization AHLJI MUSA DARATU made this known in
Abuja after the call of the new national executives of the organization. AHLJI MUSA DARATU stated that the
social and economic issues facing the well being of the senior citizens are yet
to be given attention by the government. According to AHLJI MUSA DARATU who assured the people that they are going to see
that the preeminence is in place, and he says if Nigeria did not have that in
the constitution, we have a national assembly that can give order so that the
Senior citizens should be taken care of.
AHLJJI MUSA DARATU also promised to work with the new executive member
of the organization as they come with the measures in building hands welfare that
will help contribute to National development. Also according to the President
of the Organization ROYAL ADMIRAL
CHRISTOPHER IHEAMO, who appealed
for the appointment of the senior special assistant to the president and the Elderly, he also told the people that
at that moment the organization have senior special assistant on disabled
citizens to the MR. PRESIDENT but
they don’t have for the elderly people. He still specified that women affairs
are managing the elderly people but more attention is given to the youth and women,
then, he said that now the elderly people should take the bull by the horn.
ROYAL ADMIRAL CHRISTOPHER IHEAMO said that the Senior Citizens Advocate of Nigeria was
formed seven years ago to mobilize and tie citizens across the country to key
in to governmental programs to turn their welfare and improve the society.
