IMPORTANT OF GIRL CHILD EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: A CASE STUDY OF KADUNA STATE

Kaduna State government in Nigeria said any parents who refused to allow his children between the ages of 6 and 15 years to obtain free education provided by the state government will be arrested and prosecuted. GOVERNOR AHMED advised and stated this at the program entitled ADVOCATING FOR GIRL CHILD EDUCATION organized by NGO YOUTH GROUP AFRICA in Kaduna state Nigeria.

According to reporter from Kaduna state who said that MALLAM LASU emphasize stressed that the state government had concluded arrangement to ensure that every child attends school, he explained that government was feeding 1.8 million people in public schools to ensure that children especially girls acquired sound education. According to him he specified that he does not want any parents to give an excuse in this administration why his child boy or girl is not in the school with effect from September 2016 when the school will open; any child aged between 6 and 15 year found not in the school will have his parents or guardian arrested, prosecuted and send to prison.

Still according to MALLAM LASU, the commissioner of education has already directed that all senior management staff of ministry of Education has sent direct report to parents to remove their children from private schools and put them government school to avoid excuses.

Also speaking the state commissioner for education, science and technology PROFESSOR ANDREW LUCK said government has increased female enrollment in school through award of scholarship. According to PROFESSOR ANDREW who said that all their effort is to encourage female student to enroll and benefit most from these schemes.

The founder of the NGO YOUTH GROUP AFRICA MR. ROTIMI OLAWADE advised parents and traditional rulers to ensure that girls in their community go to schools, according to him; he said that the essence of organizing the program is to shed more light on how to organize and ensure that girls in the community go to school. And this cost the government 10.5 million naira for school children to achieve this objective. MR. ROTIMI OLAWADE also said that in Kaduna state there are lot girls in primary school and some of them later drop out in secondary school.

Also the wife of Kaduna state governor HAJIA HADIS RUFAI noted that girls constitute a significant population which should be supported to acquire quality education. According to her she said that there are many factors militating against the girl child education in Nigeria, particularly in the Northern part of the country, and she specified that this is why programs like this forum is very important because the call is to focus on these issues and the demand is that we rise up to the challenges of providing solutions to them.

Some of the participants on the program emphasized to the government of all level to put more resources to promote GIRL CHILD EDUCATION in the country. According to them, they said that when you educate a girl child, you have completely educated a nation and they also emphasized on the need for parents to make sure that they educate their girl child. The program is being attended by Students Parents and Traditional of the community.
